An analysis was made of the word-choice of mainstream newspaper headlines appearing in the present volume. Over eleven thousand headlines were considered. The word “Against” appears over one hundred times, thus the title of the present volume.

Against the British Union of Fascists is unique in that it is a survey of mainstream press reports about the BUF. No prior work has addressed this literature. It is also the case that item-by-item, no prior work contains as many entries as Against the British Union of Fascists. This work is first published bibliography of the newspapers published by the BUF, including Fascist Week, Blackshirt and Action; the first published bibliography of the magazine published by the Friends of Mosley, Comrade; a composite index of nearly thirty reference works on the BUF; and in conclusion a bibliography of select reference works published since Rees.
